Q: What Is The UK Bonsai Association? A: The Association was established in October 2018 by a small group of bonsai enthusiasts with the one aim in mind, to bring together the entire bonsai community across the United Kingdom and to further the art of bonsai.
Q:Who belongs To The Association? A: Whether you are new to the hobby or an old hand, whether you belong to a society or just a keen individual, this association aims to connect us all.
Q:How Many Members Does The Association Have? A:We are pleased to confirm, even after only a short period of time, membership today is 1217, not bad for something that was only started in October 2018.
Q:How Do I Become A Member? A:Membership to the organisation is free and simple, just click HERE to complete an application form at a an event with your name, telephone number, email address, signed and dated, or do the same on line.
Q:Why Become A Member? A: On joining the Association you will receive a regular monthly bulletin, sent out to each member directly, giving upto date information on events happening that month and high-lighting any recent changes on the website.
Q: Does the Association have members from abroad? A: Yes, there are many keen bonsai enthusiasts living abroad, who for one reason or another, wish to keep up to date on the latest developments on the UK bonsai scene and only by being a member can they receive the UKBA bulletin.
Q:How Do I Find Out About Bonsai Events? A:We compile a rolling year diary on behalf of the bonsai community, its updated after every event. The diary is produced in two formats, a physical pamphlet which you will often see being handed out at events and on the website. The website diary includes more information, for example, who might be trading at a show or who might be demonstrating at a show, information only available nearer the event date.
Q: If My Bonsai Went Missing How Can The Association Help? A:We encourage all members to photograph their best trees, in the unfortunate situation that they go missing, you can send us pictures of the missing trees and we will immediately communicate the pictures to all members, including all traders.
Q:If My Club Is Looking For A Speaker? A:On the website we keep a comprehensive list of all speakers in the UK, where they are willing to travel and their full contact details.
Q:If I Want To See A Certain Speaker? A:On the bulletin we provide information as too the dates and clubs that certain speakers are visiting, all you need to do is roll up on the night, pay the respective club its visitors fee, and enjoy your favourite artist demoing or speaking.
Q:How Do I Find Out About Workshops? A:If your after a group workshop or a more personal 1-2-1 workshop, visit the website for information.
Q:How Is The Association Financed. A:The Association is self financing by running certain money raising events to cover costs, the first of which took place on the 27th January 2019, the auction & show. All the people involved with the association receive no monies, they are all volunteers and fellow bonsai enthusiasts, donating their time and efforts free.
Q:Does The Association Cover Events Abroad. A:The Association is mainly interested is everything in the UK, but if a member travels abroad, for whatever reason, if the trip includes bonsai, we want to know.
Q:If I Want To Get Involved With The Association? A: The Association is in its very infancy, but as it develops we will need more volunteers. If you have any new ideas or constructive comments with regard the UK bonsai Scene, we would be very pleased to receive them.
Q:If I Want To Publicise Something? A:Members or Non-Members are welcome to us the Notice Board on the bulletin to communicate information ie: exhibitor close off dates for shows, changes in contact information, artists appearing at shows.
Q:How Up To Date Is Information On The Website? A:We endeavour to keep everything as up to date as possible, if while perusing the website you find something amiss, please contact us immediately, we will correct the information asap.
Q: Does The Association Provide Any Insurance Cover A: We understand insurance is legally required in the bonsai world, covering everything from club workshops through to the biggest and smallest bonsai events, but for now the association would advise you to contact a professional insurance broker for correct advise. At this moment in time most clubs or event organisers use RHS insurance or Federation Of British Bonsai Societies insurance, we can not advise further, because as far as we know, no one in the UK has ever tried claiming on their insurance.
